Work at Home Fence

The Work at Home Fence - I've been on both sides of it: Telecommuting and Home Business Mentoring -- My work from home experience: I've ... built websites for myself and other people, sold on ebay, advertised on my site, done affiliate marketing, written ebooks, created clipart, created; marketed; and sold my own actual products, hired freelance coders, hired independent contractors for writing. Things I will never do: direct selling, parties.

How to Start Your Own Online Business Ebook Review

I read the Ebook How to Start Your Own Online Business and highly recommend it to all Internet newbies just starting out and wishing to make some money off the Internet.

Who the ebook is for
This ebook is for absolute beginners. It is for someone who knows they want to try to earn an income, part time or full time, from the Internet but they aren't sure how. It is for anyone who wants to start their own business but isn't sure where to start. It is even for people who think they might want to get into Internet marketing or selling, but they aren't sure. The author does a lot of pep talking and a little hand holding to convince you that anyone can make money off the Internet (and she's right!).

What's in the ebook
In this ebook you will find information on how to make money with affiliate marketing, how to decide on a business idea, how to avoid scams, how to accept credit cards, how to evaluate businesses for sale, web site building basics, domain name legal issues, detailed information with screenshots on ordering a domain and setting up your domain's email in outlook express, how to spot fraudulent orders, getting visitors to your website, advertising, product shipping, customer service issues, taxes and business licenses, and more.

Why I recommend this book
I recommend this ebook because it is right on and totally correct in every aspect. I learned everything in this book the hard way, and it took me over 5 years to start making some serious money with my websites. I sold products, I did affiliate marketing, I did direct advertising, I sold on ebay ... I have probably tried everything in the book and more. I had had just enough money trickling in each month to keep me interested since 1997 but I didn't make more than $300 in a month for about 5 years. Now though, I have made as much as my husband makes in a full time job every year since then. If I had had this book in the beginning, I wouldn't have had to learn it all through trial and error. If I had had this book to teach me the basics, I could have gotten a lot more serious a lot sooner. My loss.

So, I suggest you get a copy of How to Start Your Own Online Business for yourself. It is sold through Clickbank. Clickbank is safe - I have sold and bought ebooks through them for years now.

So, let's take this apart and see why you should throw it right in the garbage.

1. Horrific spelling and grammar
You may excuse the poor grammar and spelling because it is obvious that the author is not a native english speaker, but this would be a mistake, because even a non-native english speaker offering a legitimate home job would still be a professional. He or she would hire a proofreader or even a copywriter, not just slap up any old junk.

2. It came to me in my email. I didn't request this and that almost automatically makes it spam. Legitimate companies do not operate via spam, not if they know anything about the web.

3. Looking at the URL in the message: http://solidjob.org and the URL in the apparent header (I won't duplicate it here, they probably had nothing to do with this spam), they don't match. This is a HUGE tipoff to something sneaky.

Now, I went to the website to check it out. I wouldn't advice anyone do this, as sometimes these websites are dangerous. My computer is well-protected so I decided to risk it. You may think that because the website is a .org site it is OK. Actually, anyone can get a .org site, you don't have to provide proof of validity.

So, the website is the same - lots of spelling mistakes. Low quality. Doesn't look finished. Junk.

And, as a final check, I ran a google search on the title of the email and found a prior similar emails sent to mailing lists, archived on the web, with a different website. This website led to nowhere. My guess is it was shut down for fraud.

Beware of "Looking for Representatives in America" Scam

Woman Bilked out of Thousands in Work-At-Home Scam - What an unfortunate story: This woman received an email offering a work at home job as an importer and exporter. She fell for the scam, cashed the $35,000 check, took 10% for herself as instructed, and sent the money on to where she was told to. Unfortunately, the check was no good, and now she owes the bank $35,000.

She's taking out a loan and getting two out-of-the-home jobs to pay it back.

Please don't ever fall for anything like this. Leave me a comment here. I will tell you what I think of any work at home job. I've fell for a few (never to the tune of $35,000) and I have a pretty good nose for the bad ones.

Google Update

Well, anyone who relies on organic search for driving traffic to their site may have noticed Google did some funny things over the last month. My major site was finally affected by it a few days ago, for the worse, unfortunately. I lost about 20% of my traffic from google. Looks like I need to get back on the promotion bandwagon.

Five Tips for Avoiding Home Business Scams

By Susie Cortright

Here are five tips to avoiding the scams and finding the right home-based business opportunity for you.

IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE... It probably is. If you find an opportunity for which you can make a lot of money without spending any time working, move on to the next opportunity.

VAGUE HEADLINES "Tammy made $4,000 in her first month. So can you." Testimonials that are difficult to verify may not be legitimate. If the ad only gives first names and photographs of people holding scads of cash, be careful. If Tammy is a legitimate home-working entrepreneur, it's possible that she made that $4,000 in her first month...and significantly less after that time period.

Also be wary of companies that offer to sell you lists of companies that are looking for home-workers. A friend of mine once shelled out $95 for such a list, which turned out to be a listing straight from her yellow pages.

THE OVERHYPED Be leery if there is a strict time limit for investing in a business opportunity. Scammers know that the faster you act, the less you think (and research). And if this is a fly-by-night company, these time limits provide a better opportunity to take the money and run.

Also, don't get too excited about deep discounts on starting costs. More costs may come later. And keep in mind that, in many states, the government does not regulate business opportunities with investments of less than $500. Some of the worst scams may fall into this category.

RESEARCH Use your knowledge of the internet to avoid being scammed. Check for listings with the National Fraud Information Center as well as the Better Business Bureau.

You can also conduct a search for the business opportunities on Google Groups Here you'll find an archive of newsgroup postings. If someone has been scammed, chances are they'll want to warn others.

IF YOU DECIDE TO SIGN... Get everything in writing, including business expenses-- from fees to equipment to supplies. Keep detailed records.

Some online opportunities are lucrative and legitimate, and--armed with a few online resources--it's never been easier to sort the good from the bad.

When it comes to working from home, "when there's a will, there's a way." Now it's up to you to find the way that best suits you and your lifestyle.
